What's better than a gal pal? (Oscars 2011 inspiration)

As some of you may have guessed, Tanya and I live in Los Angeles, home of the casual chic. We wear boots and mini skirts in the winter, harem pants and rompers in the spring. But Tanya and I both still have a lot of that New York street style left in us when it comes to fashion. So it was no surprise that we both decided it would be cool to play a little "Studio 54" dress up one warm, sunny afternoon.

 

That was the inspiration to throw on these gowns. After all, we don't have any Oscars to attend...yet.

Tanya's dress had been languishing in her closet, (the victim of dated design) and mine had been quietly awaiting its exit from a Hollywood costume house. We got together, made a few creative alterations, (mine to fix a busted seam, darts, and zipper, hers to re-cut her cream number into something more contemporary by slashing the front, raising the waist, lifting the hem, and adding the tie).

And here's what we got!

It's awesome to have a friend who loves to play dress up and will indulge in those moments with you. If you get the chance, go buy something unique, and even a little silly and see what you can do with it! And if you have a "bestie", take her with you and make her buy that crazy, lamé dress. You never know what will come of it. It might be the best investment you both make this season.
